Westmead Hospital &  BTCT Program Details

Westmead Hospital is the largest tertiary referral hospital within NSW providing comprehensive health services to one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. It is part of the Westmead Health Precinct incorporating adult & paediatric services with the adjacent Children’s Hospital Westmead, the Westmead Institute of Medical Research and the University of Sydney. The Department of Haematology incorporates all aspects of clinical haematology including  malignant  & classical programs, the Blood Transplant & Cell Therapies group and the Amyloid service.

The Westmead Blood Transplant and Cell Therapies (BTCT) unit is the largest transplant and cellular therapy centre in NSW with highly developed clinical and laboratory research interests. The Blood Transplant program perform all forms of clinical transplantation & donor types, having established the widespread use of haploidentical transplant across Australia. The Cell Therapies program undertakes all currently available CART products as well as investigational therapies through our extensive international and local research programs across the Westmead Health Precinct.

 

The roles

We have 2 (two) full-time, fixed term positions for 12 months, commencing  1st February 2027. Both positions are based within Westmead Hospital under the BTCT unit.

Selection Criteria 

1. Possess or be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) & possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award

2. Possess sound clinical knowledge in haematology & blood transplant and cell therapies demonstrated through successful clinical practice

3. Have demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

  • High level interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision

4. Commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

5. Up to date knowledge of cellular therapies including blood transplantation and CAR T cell administration with some clinical experience in the care of patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant

6. Awareness and understanding of complications of blood transplant and CAR T cell therapies and their treatments

7. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team 

8. Willingness to participate in clinical and laboratory quality systems
