PhD Scholarships

HSANZ / Leukaemia Foundation PhD Scholarships 2025 

The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) and the Leukaemia Foundation (LF) are pleased to confirm their partnership and commitment to awarding doctoral scholarships to Australian applicants planning to undertake high quality research in blood cancer or blood cancer related topics. These PhD Scholarships are a flagship program of HSANZ and LF, supporting members to undertake supported higher degree training, and developing the next generation of Australian blood cancer researchers.

Leukaemia Foundation 2025 PhD Research Priorities

This year up to three (3) scholarships will be awarded to meritorious applications where the application aligns with at least one of the Leukaemia Foundation's research priorities. These include:  

  • Understanding the biology of blood cancers
  • Diagnostics and prevention
  • Therapies and care options
  • Implementation science

HSANZ / The Marina Grunstein Walking Up The Hill Foundation PHD Scholarship 2025

The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Walking up the Hill Foundation are pleased to confirm their partnership and commitment to awarding doctoral scholarships to Australian applicants planning to undertake high quality research in myeloma research. This PhD Scholarship is a flagship for HSANZ and WUTH, supporting members to undertake supported higher degree training, and developing the next generation of Australian myeloma researchers. 

Walking up the Hill Foundation 2025 PhD Research Priorities

This year one (1) scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious applications pertinent to myeloma research where the application aligns with at least one of the following research priorities. These include

  • Understanding the biology of myeloma
  • Diagnostics and prevention
  • Therapies and care options
  • Implementation science

HSANZ PHD Scholarship 2024 For 2025

The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ)  is pleased to call for applications for the HSANZ New Investigator PhD Scholarship to be taken up in 2025.

 This HSANZ funded PhD Scholarship is available to applicants who are medical, nurse or science graduates.

This year HSANZ is offering doctoral funding for either:

  • a suitable project from a New Zealand applicant, OR
  • a high-quality application in non-malignant haematology

Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation HSANZ PHD Scholarship 2023 For 2024

The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) and Arrow the Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation (Arrow) are pleased to confirm their partnership and commitment to awarding  doctoral scholarship to Australian applicants demonstrating outstanding merit in bone marrow or stem cell transplantation research.

 Arrow 2023 PhD Research Priorities

This year, Arrow and HSANZ will award one PhD scholarship to successful applicants whose research work focusses on improving outcomes of blood and marrow transplantation for patients by making the procedure safer, reducing the risk of relapse after transplant, and proactively managing long-term health issues and side effects from transplant. This includes research in the following focus areas:

  • Allogeneic transplants
  • Graft-versus-host disease
  • Alternative donor approaches
  • Prevention of infectious complications
  • Management of long-term issues
  • Disease recurrence

The research work must also align with the purpose and objectives of the HSANZ.

HSANZ Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand PHD Scholarship 2023 FOR 2024

This scholarship is not currently being offered.

The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand are pleased to confirm their partnership and commitment to awarding a doctoral scholarship to a New Zealand applicant demonstrating outstanding merit in blood cancer or blood cancer related disorders.

 PhD Research Priorities

This year, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and HSANZ will award one
PhD scholarship to a successful applicant whose work aligns with at least one of
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand following research priorities:

  • Research that addresses unmet health and/or diagnostic needs, including quality and service delivery, in the field of haemato-oncology in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Research that addresses the needs of Māori with haemato-oncology conditions
