Specialist Haematologist - Bay of Plenty New Zealand

Due to the planned retirement of one of our team and the need to grow our service delivery we are looking for a Specialist Haematologist to join our team based at Tauranga Hospital with a focus on the delivery of high-quality specialist care to the rapidly growing population across the Bay of Plenty.

We are looking to recruit a Haematologists who is keen to participate with us in developing responsive and innovative ways of meeting the needs of our growing population. The role is suited to someone who is enthusiastic around service improvement and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Bay of Plenty District Health Board is committed to our Te Toi Ahorangi vision of equitable services and health outcomes for Maori. To meet this vision the ideal candidate will have experience in working in a culturally diverse setting and proven skills in contributing to services which have evolved to meet the needs of patients, whanau/family and the wider community through an integrated service model of care.  

The Haematology service is responsible for predominantly ambulatory patients however does provide specialist advice and oversight for inpatients with haematological presentations. Outpatient clinics and support is also provided to Physicians caring for patients within the Eastern Bay of Plenty (Whakatāne Hospital). 

In addition, we seek an individual who is has the skills to foster a learning culture across undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, with the support of the BOP clinical school and the University of Auckland. The school also provides clinical research opportunities.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council or be training in NZ and with 9 months or less of advanced training remaining to achieve FRACP.
