Registered Nurse Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant position Royal Melbourne Hospital

Part Time/Full Time permanent hours available

The Royal Melbourne Hospital has a 32 bed ward dedicated to the care of patients undergoing treatment for Acute Leukaemia, Non-Malignant Haematology and Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplants. We provide innovative, high quality care to patients throughout all aspects of their treatment journey utilising the expertise of all partners within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

The Ward.

In addition to a supernumerary NUM and large Clinical Nurse Education team Monday to Friday, ward nurses have great access to a range of supports including;

  • Nurse patient ratios 1:3 daytime and 1:5 night time.
  • Clinical Resource Nurse 0930 -1800 daily
  • Health Assistant in Nursing model to support the Registered Nurses
  • Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners

Professional Development opportunities.

  • Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing (University of Melbourne).
  • Registered Nurse Introduction to Specialty Education (RISE) program.
  • Beyond the Basics (2 day course covering aspects of Haematology nursing).
  • Bone Marrow Transplant study day.
  • Preceptor in charge program (8-10 week program working alongside nurse in charge).
  • Professional Development Associate Nurse Unit Manager role (rotation nurse in charge role).
  • Additional ward based competencies; central venous access device (CVAD) management, blood management, cytotoxic administration and stem cell administration.
